Las Vegas 2018

On our way to Las Vegas from New York.

Arriving in Vegas

On the 7th of May 2018 we landed in Las Vegas, and sorted out our hire car for the rest of the holiday. We scored a massive car that had plenty of room for the kids to set up and sprawl out in the back, with the possibility of getting an entire row of seats each if they so pleased. It was the perfect set up for the long car journeys that awaited us.

We then checked into our hotel for the next few days; the Stratosphere.

The morning of the 8th we went across the street to iHop where we had a massive breakfast, with some left over for breakfast the next day too 😋

We then hopped into the car and travelled to the old mining town of Eldorado. I made a separate post about that which you can see here

We spent the rest of the day at the southern outlets, before heading back to the hotel for tea.

In the evening we decided to go to downtown Las Vegas to wander around Fremont Street.

May 9th we had the remainders of our iHop leftovers for breakfast then headed off to Hoover Dam. See post here

We even got to stand on the border between ←Nevada and Arizona→

It was such a hot day that we all decided to go to the cafe at Hoover Dam and get ice creams to cool us down.

Then we jumped back into the car and went on a long drive to the Grand Canyon where we caught the shuttle bus that brought us to Hualapai Ranch. See post here

The shuttle then drove us to the main attraction; the Grand Canyon

The views were absolutely breathtaking and we spent ages admiring and wandering around, Jodie wandered off herself for a while and we found her making her way up to the highest point.

Climbing to the top was fabulous, and gave us an even better look all the way around.

After a long, hot day of exploring we headed home, showered, and went to bed to rest up.

Our last full day in Vegas was the 10th of May, which started off with a wander around the hotel where Jodie made friends with Elvis 😜 before heading to the outlets for lunch and a final shop.

We then decided to go up the Stratosphere tower to see the views, which were fantastic.

I even had a wine at the tallest bar in Vegas!

We spent the rest of the day exploring the strip and hotels taking photos. We also went to see the Vegas sign but we had to wait in the queue to get our pics taken.

The kids enjoyed a wander around the coca cola store looking at the hundreds of different bottles

We went to the Mandarin Oriental, where I got to view the Moet & Chandon vending machine, but in true Karen fashion I wouldn't buy one as the were too expensive 😜😜

At night we went back up the tower to see the city all lit up, it was a lot busier however, but we could see why.

Afterwards we went back to our room to pack and turn in for our journey to Palm Springs the next day! See blog post here

Aussie Pie Floater

With Australia day fast approaching, I had to share this Aussie icon. The pie floater is a meat pie submerged in thick pea soup, the pies are traditionally turned upside down sitting or sometimes submerged in the pea soup. The first time I had ever heard of this was while watching an episode of Billy Connolly's Australian tour. He was doing a show in Adelaide and indulged in one of these south Aussie icons. We tried a similar thing called a tiger pie from Harry's Cafe de Wheels on the Sydney harbour, the Tiger is a meat pie served with scoop of mash a scoop of mushy peas and a scoop of gravy, it was really delicious.  A pie floater put simply is a meat pie on top of or covered in green pea soup with a choice of sauce squirted on top, the usual being ketchup, brown sauce, mint sauce, gravy or bbq sauce, some people also enjoy vinegar over their floater, I suppose the options can be endless, whatever 'floats' your pie!!. I searched a few variou...

Reindeer Mini Chocolate Rolls

How cute are these guys!!, super easy to make and perfect for kiddies Christmas parties. I didn't bother weighing and measuring the ingredients, just go with how much you plan to make, it's that simple. All you need are a few items, if you don't have any of these to hand you can always improvise, instead of the candy eyes use white and milk chocolate, pretzels can be used for the legs as well as the antlers. Ingredients mini chocolate rolls white melting chocolate red and brown mini M & M's icing eyes milk chocolate melts pretzels chocolate matchsticks Method 1.  Melt some white chocolate melts according to packet directions.
