Daisy Chains and Picnics

I was doing some decluttering of my garden beds which had become a bit over grown, I also wanted this guy in his own pot to give it more room for growth. (25th March 2023)AZ I couldn't find a large enough pot to rehome it when Scott suggested we use our old fire pit which we were intending to get rid of. It took a few bags of cactus mix to fill it up but I am hoping it will thrive better in a pot of it's own. It wasn't easy to get it out of it's original spot, we had to do a lot of teasing of the roots as it had worked it's way along the whole bed, but we eventually got it free, although it was very heavy. Not to mention deadly!! And I noticed a couple of days ago that it is growing a new bud.

It's hard to believe how much these have grown, the succulents are encroaching on the cactus and it is actually pushing against the fence as the babies at the front are pushing it to an angle. I didn't want to interfere with it during the winter months so it was just left to grow its own way. Finally on 11th September 2022 we decided it was time to dig it up ready for replanting. We had to remove the fence slats first so we could get into it from behind. We removed the succulents first then concentrated on the cactus. It took a great deal of effort but we eventually got it out.  We put it in a large tub and left it in the cabana as it was raining on and off for quite a while so we waited until we got a dryish spell. Instead of replacing the fence we decided to add a piece of glass so the cactus could get more sun as this one was in the shade for most of the day, the glass actually came from an old door that Scott had to remove from a property and take to the tip, he took the gl...

 ..... And this is why!! Yep, I bought more plants, well mostly cacti 🌵🌵 Cerys wanted a Venus flytrap and it cost $5 less in the garden centre than it cost in Bunnings. I also got this gorgeous vase I plan to put a cactus in. I finally got my hands on The Brain cactus 🙋 So that's it in a nutshell, Scott has banned me from going cactus shopping for a while 🙈🙈

We plan to make a herb garden outside when we get the backyard finished but until then Cerys and I thought we would give growing herbs indoors a try. 11th June we headed to Kmart to get some pots for growing the herbs and we came across a tiered plant stand that will be perfect for storing them while they are growing.  We also got a couple of packets of these cute metal herb planter sets And this small watering can to leave beside them. Scott and Cerys put it together while I picked up Jodie from work. We are going to paint it pink. Some herbs to get started with. Cerys got to work planting them on Sunday 13th June 2021. We just have to play the waiting game now to see if they grow 🙏 25th June 2021, herb update
