Scott has always wanted a fire but we have had no place to put it, and our original TV unit we bought when we first moved here almost 18 years ago, has been part of our fixtures and fittings ever since, plus, I was hard pushed to change it because I still liked it. But Scott saw this fire in Bunnings and just had to take me in to see it!!, well, needless to say, I fell in love with it but, where would we put it?!.
I put it to him that if he could make me a new unit to fit around the fire then we should go for it, well, he didn't need any persuading!! 😆. I got to work thinking of a design I wanted and he drew it up and set to work creating it.
Scott also added some colour changing down lights to enhance the ambience of the fire.
Before
8th July 2026, we bought a fire from Bunnings for the living room.
So Scott had to construct the new unit that I had visions of for it to fit into.
He did a couple of rough sketches with the dimensions.
Jodie made the design come to life on her computer.
We started by dismantling the old unit, which we bought when we first moved here almost 18 years ago.
11th July, he started cutting the unit shape out of the wood.
Fixing it together
Making sure the fire fitted.
The TV had to be moved up a bit.
Undercoated in white.
Of course the main colour just had to be pink!! 😂
Once the paint was dry, the fire went into place.
The holes in the wall from the original shelving had to be hidden.
So instead of trying to patch them, we decided that we would put a backing on the shelves.
But, I didn't want the backing to be plain, so Scott made a paneled backing to fit into each space.
Once it was finished, my fun began!, playing around with the displays.
I didn't want to get rid of the bar cart so we moved it to the other side.
I absolutely love the new addition to our living room, and I am looking forward to decorating my new unit for Halloween and Christmas!!
