Day Fourteen....11th November 2024

We woke up at 8am, got dressed and started to pack the car. We then had our breakfast in the room, I had already bought some cereal so we just had that and a cup of tea.

We checked out at 10am.

We headed to the new Showgirls sign. (I say new, they were erected in 2022, but they are new to us.) Two 50 foot tall neon showgirls on Las Vegas Boulevard. Taking photos along the way until we reached them.

We also stopped to take pics of The Gateway Arches marking the official arrival into the city of Las Vegas, located on Las Vegas Boulevard and Bob Stupak Avenues. These beauties are 80 feet tall.

We also noticed that The Stratosphere Hotel has now been renamed The Strat. We stayed at The Stratosphere in 2018. see here.

We hopped back in the car leaving Las Vegas for our last accommodation of this amazing adventurous holiday heading to Victorville, CA, for the Comfort Suites.

Driving for 1.5 hours we came to Baker, CA.

We stopped to take some photos pf a deserted gas station.

And the worlds tallest thermometer.

Standing at 41 metres, it was built in 1991.

We carried on another hour to Peggy Sue's Diner in Yermo, CA.

We had our lunch there.

Scott had the Marlon Brandon mushroom cheeseburger which came with 2 sides and a bowl of soup, which we shared.

I had the La Bamba Burger 50's style chili size.

We had a wander around before leaving.

We checked into our accommodation in Victorville at 4.30 pm, then went to the local Walmart for something for our tea, before settling down and watching TV for a bit.

Aussie Pie Floater

With Australia day fast approaching, I had to share this Aussie icon. The pie floater is a meat pie submerged in thick pea soup, the pies are traditionally turned upside down sitting or sometimes submerged in the pea soup. The first time I had ever heard of this was while watching an episode of Billy Connolly's Australian tour. He was doing a show in Adelaide and indulged in one of these south Aussie icons. We tried a similar thing called a tiger pie from Harry's Cafe de Wheels on the Sydney harbour, the Tiger is a meat pie served with scoop of mash a scoop of mushy peas and a scoop of gravy, it was really delicious.  A pie floater put simply is a meat pie on top of or covered in green pea soup with a choice of sauce squirted on top, the usual being ketchup, brown sauce, mint sauce, gravy or bbq sauce, some people also enjoy vinegar over their floater, I suppose the options can be endless, whatever 'floats' your pie!!. I searched a few variou...

I didn't bother weighing and measuring the ingredients, just go with how much you plan to make, it's that simple. All you need are a few items, if you don't have any of these to hand you can always improvise, instead of the candy eyes use white and milk chocolate, pretzels can be used for the legs as well as the antlers.
