California Day 3 - Los Angeles, Beverly Hills & Downtown Disney

Jodie's breakfast

On Saturday the 22nd of October we left our accommodation at 11am for a look around a nearby Target store where I bought a couple of recipe books.

It looks as if I am mad at Jodie here! 😂

After that we headed over to South Pasadena for a look at the Fair Oaks Pharmacy; a well known pharmacy along Route 66 that has been in operation since 1915.

Unfortunately on the day we went it was open as pharmacy use only, so we didn't get the chance to have a proper look around or have a drink at the soda fountain.

We then headed over to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery on Santa Monica Blvd, arriving at around 1:30pm.

We located the grave of Estelle Getty, who portrayed Sophia Petrillo on The Golden Girls (one of my all time favourite characters!)

Not far from Estelle Getty's grave was the grave of Mel Blanc "The Man of a Thousand Voices". Famous for his voice work on the Loony Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons.

Then we went over to the Judy Garland Pavilion Mausoleum, where Judy Garland herself was laid to rest, after being moved from the Ferncliff Cemetery in New York as requested by her children.

We also went for a quick look around The Cathedral Mausoleum in the hope of spotting Rudolph Valentino and Mickey Rooney's final resting place but they proved more difficult to come across so we just took a few photos and left, we had a short stroll through the grounds before we left for our lunch.

The inside of the building was beautiful.

At 2pm we stopped off at Jack in the Box for lunch.

Beverly Hills was the next stop of the day, starting with the Beverly Hills Hotel 😍

We had a wander around the premises and I, of course, took heaps of photos, (I will do a separate post for that).

After we were done at the Beverly Hills Hotel we went over to the Beverly Hills Sign.

And also the Peace and Love Sculpture designed by Ringo Starr.

By this point it was 5pm, so we decided to go to Downtown Disney. After parking (which was $30!!) we headed through security and into an extremely busy Downtown Disney.

We didn't spend much time there due to how busy it was, and that it started to rain while we were there.

On the way out we went in past the Grand Californian Hotel, where we came across a 4 foot tall Oogie Boogie that was entirely edible!

Check out the ingredients!

We also stopped in past the Disneyland Hotel to get some photos of their Halloween decorations.

And that concludes our third day in California!

Aussie Pie Floater

With Australia day fast approaching, I had to share this Aussie icon. The pie floater is a meat pie submerged in thick pea soup, the pies are traditionally turned upside down sitting or sometimes submerged in the pea soup. The first time I had ever heard of this was while watching an episode of Billy Connolly's Australian tour. He was doing a show in Adelaide and indulged in one of these south Aussie icons. We tried a similar thing called a tiger pie from Harry's Cafe de Wheels on the Sydney harbour, the Tiger is a meat pie served with scoop of mash a scoop of mushy peas and a scoop of gravy, it was really delicious.  A pie floater put simply is a meat pie on top of or covered in green pea soup with a choice of sauce squirted on top, the usual being ketchup, brown sauce, mint sauce, gravy or bbq sauce, some people also enjoy vinegar over their floater, I suppose the options can be endless, whatever 'floats' your pie!!. I searched a few variou...

How cute are these guys!!, super easy to make and perfect for kiddies Christmas parties. I didn't bother weighing and measuring the ingredients, just go with how much you plan to make, it's that simple. All you need are a few items, if you don't have any of these to hand you can always improvise, instead of the candy eyes use white and milk chocolate, pretzels can be used for the legs as well as the antlers.
