This is a fun Christmas activity for the little ones to help with. Make these a few days before Christmas and watch their excitement as they lay them out on Christmas eve for the reindeer to eat.
Put them in a small lidded jar for an easy simple early gift for children's friends or young cousins.
Once dry, add a layer of the uncoloured oats into the jar, followed by a layer of green and red oats.
Print out an instruction leaflet for the kiddies on how to use the reindeer food.
I made this one up but you can use your own.
Watch the excitement and anticipation on their little faces when they sprinkle the reindeer food on the lawn on Christmas eve.
Put them in a small lidded jar for an easy simple early gift for children's friends or young cousins.
What you will need:
- Rolled Oats
- Green and red liquid food colouring
- Small zip lock bags
- Small lidded jar (optional)
- Gift tag (optional)
Firstly, measure out how much oats you will need by filling your chosen jar. Divide them into 3. Keep 1/3rd uncoloured, set aside. Place the other 2/3rd's in separate zip lock bags.
Next, in 2 small bowls, mix a little water with a few drops of food colouring. Add a small amount of colouring to each bag (red in one and green in the other), you just want enough to coat the oats, not soak them or they will end up like coloured porridge. Close each bag and shake so that the colouring spreads through the oats, add more as needed to coat the oats.

Spread the oats onto paper towels and place in the sun or a warm place and allow to dry completely.
Once dry, add a layer of the uncoloured oats into the jar, followed by a layer of green and red oats.
