Night of The Living Dead Brownie Cake

Jodie and myself have been putting our heads together to come up with things that we could make for Halloween. Trawling the ever handy internet for ideas. Jodie suggested a brownie graveyard with gravestones so we decided to put the two together and make a brownie gravestone with 'someone' trying to get out of a coffin...
Hence..The night of the living dead!

It's not the cough that carries you off-it's the coffin they carry you off in! 😁
My gran used to say that to us kids when ever we had a cough!

To make the shape of the headstone, Jodie fashioned some some tinfoil into a gravestone shaped mould in which I poured the white chocolate and a little swirl of black food colour.

Then cut the brownie into a coffin shape.

The outside texture of the brownie gave a fantastic creepy effect, which I thought was perfect for how I wanted the overall appearance to look.

Ingredients

1 brownie tray bake kit
5 chocolate finger biscuits
white chocolate melts
5 almonds, halved length ways

Method

1.  Make brownie tray bake according to packet directions.

2.  Make a gravestone shaped mould out of tin foil.

3.  Melt some white chocolate melts according to packet directions. Split into 2 separate bowls. Add a little black food colouring to one bowl and swirl it around a little. Pour into gravestone mould. Allow to set.

4.  Add some red food colouring to the other bowl of melted chocolate. Combine to make a pinkish skin colour.  Dip finger biscuits into the melted chocolate then add an almond 'finger nail' to each. Allow to set.

5.  Cut the brownie in the shape of a coffin. Gently push the 'fingers' into the cake. Crumble some leftover brownie and sprinkle over the fingers to resemble earth.

6.  Using a black food colouring pen, write R.I.P onto the gravestone. Place on the coffin.

Aussie Pie Floater

With Australia day fast approaching, I had to share this Aussie icon. The pie floater is a meat pie submerged in thick pea soup, the pies are traditionally turned upside down sitting or sometimes submerged in the pea soup. The first time I had ever heard of this was while watching an episode of Billy Connolly's Australian tour. He was doing a show in Adelaide and indulged in one of these south Aussie icons. We tried a similar thing called a tiger pie from Harry's Cafe de Wheels on the Sydney harbour, the Tiger is a meat pie served with scoop of mash a scoop of mushy peas and a scoop of gravy, it was really delicious.  A pie floater put simply is a meat pie on top of or covered in green pea soup with a choice of sauce squirted on top, the usual being ketchup, brown sauce, mint sauce, gravy or bbq sauce, some people also enjoy vinegar over their floater, I suppose the options can be endless, whatever 'floats' your pie!!. I searched a few variou...
