We Bought A New Fridge Freezer

We have finally bit the bullet and got a new fridge freezer. The one we have is still the same one we bought when we moved here so it will be 16 years this year!, and it has done us so well, I was hard pushed to replace it but I didn't want it to give up completely and then have to order a new one, which could take anything from 3 days to 3 weeks to arrive, which would result in more expense due to the spoiling of the food and dairy products that the fridge freezer contains. Plus, with 5 adults living under the one roof, the fridge was a bit too small, I wanted more space. The handle has been broken and tied up for at least 11 years, (Cerys used to swing on it!, that girl would swing on anything!!), and the door seal has also been split for a few years now, but knowing the huge expense it was going to cost, we held out for as long as possible, but knew the time was nearing.

I found this information online when I was looking up how long they typically last.

What is the average lifespan of a fridge freezer?
around 10 years
The average lifespan of a fridge freezer

A fridge freezer will on average last around 10 years, depending on maintenance and quality.
So our one has had a pretty good lifespan, considering it is opened and closed continuously every day, we can't complain.

A couple of weekends ago, Scott and I went to Harvey Norman to browse the fridge freezers, just to give us an idea as to what we were after, when I spotted THE one, I just loved the size, it is 634L and layout of it, plus, and this is a BIG plus, it has an
In-freezer auto ice-maker (saves us having to buy those big bags of ice that take up so much space) and an automatic water dispenser that is plumbed into the main water supply, meaning it doesn't have to continuously be refilled, continuous cold water without opening the door, what better way to get everyone to drink more water!

Scott went into Harvey Norman on 21st February to see if they had any in stock, they said that they had 4 on order and should be here with 4 days. It was priced at $1799, but the salesperson said that they are going up in price to $1899 and that price ticket should have been removed but Scott said that he was wanting it at the price that stated on the ticket, plus some more money off, yep, we are typical Scottish folk!. After discussing it with his supervisor, he came back with $1699, $100 off the original price, $200 off the new price, we were happy with that, and went ahead and ordered it.

It arrived instore 23rd February. Scott picked it up, we had to take the door off to get it inside. Scott was pulling the trolley while Cerys and I were pushing.

Now, we just have to get it up the stairs and into the kitchen!

The morning of the 24th February, while Darren was at home, we got the worst job out of the way, getting it up the stairs.

Darren and I were behind the fridge pushing while Scott was pulling, we had to bump it up 15 steps (which unfortunately set off my sciatica again 😫), boy, was it heavy and awkward, I had to take all my pictures and handrail off the wall just so we could squeeze through the narrow staircase.

But, we managed it.

But not without damage to the stairs.

The trolley tyres left scuff marks all the way up the stairs and with the sheer weight of the fridge, damaging the trims.

Cerys cleaned the tyre marks off the stairs.

Empty box going outside.

Making breakfast in what confined space we had left.

And, I took Jodie out for a 2 hour drive.

We each wrote our name on the back of the fridge.

Since Hamish couldn't participate in the name writing, we cut off some of his fur and taped it to where our names are.

Fitting it into place.

Starting to move the food from the old to new.

Here's hoping we get as good a run from this one as we did with our original 🤞🤞.

Oh, and we still have the old one in the kitchen until we get the chance to remove it.

Aussie Pie Floater

With Australia day fast approaching, I had to share this Aussie icon. The pie floater is a meat pie submerged in thick pea soup, the pies are traditionally turned upside down sitting or sometimes submerged in the pea soup. The first time I had ever heard of this was while watching an episode of Billy Connolly's Australian tour. He was doing a show in Adelaide and indulged in one of these south Aussie icons. We tried a similar thing called a tiger pie from Harry's Cafe de Wheels on the Sydney harbour, the Tiger is a meat pie served with scoop of mash a scoop of mushy peas and a scoop of gravy, it was really delicious.  A pie floater put simply is a meat pie on top of or covered in green pea soup with a choice of sauce squirted on top, the usual being ketchup, brown sauce, mint sauce, gravy or bbq sauce, some people also enjoy vinegar over their floater, I suppose the options can be endless, whatever 'floats' your pie!!. I searched a few variou...
