Crème De La Crème A La Edgar

Here is another Disney recipe, this one is for a warm milky cinnamon infused drink. Crème de la crème a la Edgar featured on the Disney movie The Aristocats.

Edgar, the loyal butler to the rich millionairess owner of Duchess and her adorable kittens. After over hearing that Madame Bonfamille was going to leave her entire fortune to her precious cats, makes their favourite bedtime drink (laced with sleeping pills) before taking them into the countryside and leave them there.

This was another recipe share, there are two of them. The first one, I was not too keen on the ingredients as it used a lot of cinnamon and nutmeg which I think would overpower the drink. The second added honey but not cinnamon or nutmeg which while watching that clip it looks like they were added to the drink, but I will certainly try the second one. Below are the shared recipes.
Both recipe pictures sourced on shared Disney recipes sites.

So I decided to make one up myself, tasting it as I went along to get what I think is a delicious relaxing bedtime drink.

Ingredients

1/12 cups milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 cinnamon stick
1 tsp vanilla essence
1/4 tsp vanilla bean extract
2 tbsp brown sugar
1/8 tsp ground nutmeg

Method

1. In a small pan, add milk, cream, cinnamon stick, vanilla essence, vanilla extract and sugar, stir to combine. Gradually bring to the boil. Add nutmeg and whisk to combine. Serve with a sprinkle of cinnamon dusting sugar (optional).

To make it thicker, gradually add by whisking,  a little cornflour paste. ( 1 tbsp cornflour mixed with water to make a paste).

Aussie Pie Floater

With Australia day fast approaching, I had to share this Aussie icon. The pie floater is a meat pie submerged in thick pea soup, the pies are traditionally turned upside down sitting or sometimes submerged in the pea soup. The first time I had ever heard of this was while watching an episode of Billy Connolly's Australian tour. He was doing a show in Adelaide and indulged in one of these south Aussie icons. We tried a similar thing called a tiger pie from Harry's Cafe de Wheels on the Sydney harbour, the Tiger is a meat pie served with scoop of mash a scoop of mushy peas and a scoop of gravy, it was really delicious.  A pie floater put simply is a meat pie on top of or covered in green pea soup with a choice of sauce squirted on top, the usual being ketchup, brown sauce, mint sauce, gravy or bbq sauce, some people also enjoy vinegar over their floater, I suppose the options can be endless, whatever 'floats' your pie!!. I searched a few variou
