14 Ways To Use Banana Skins

1.  Gets rid of acne....Due to the exfoliating agents found naturally in the juicy inner skin it can help clear up your skin of acne. Putting a dab of this stuff on a stubborn acne bump can help reduce inflammation and get rid of the germs that cause acne to grow.

2. Cures warts....
Using the juicy inner banana peel to treat warts has been a home remedy for many ages. The healing comes from the PH-balancing and anti-inflammatory agents that reduce the size of the warts and prevent future re-occurrences. Cut a square of the banana peel and tie it down, the inner skinn making contact with the wart, and leave overnight.

3.  Whitens teeth....
The potassium, manganese and magnesium found on the peel are what gives the peel the ability to make teeth shine. Rub a banana peel against your teeth and leave it for 60 seconds before rinsing it off.

4.  Treats itchiness....
To ease the itch of mozzie bites, place a banana peel on the bite for 10 minutes. Rub it against your skin to help soothe the itch.

5.  Helps treat depression..
On a more serious note, those suffering from depression might find it helpful to keep bananas and their peels lying around. The peels are high in tryptophan, a type of amino acid that converts into serotonin, a mono amino transmitter that helps you feel relaxed. Scrape some of the inner peel into a cup of tea or on toast. If you are suffering from depression, be sure to seek professional help.

6.  Shoos away insects....
Banana peels are a natural pesticide. Ants bugging your plants? Bury a peel up to 2 inches deep in the soil. Orange peel has the same natural effects.

7.  Feed plants....
Banana peels are extremely beneficial when using as compost since they decompose quickly, becoming food for the plants.

8.  Polishes shoes...
Did you know that the main active ingredient in shoe polish is potassium and that bananas are chock full of the mineral. Rub the out layer of the peel onto your shoes' surface and let it sit for 60 seconds before wiping with a clean towel.

9.  Improves growth of indoor plants..
To help keep indoor plants green and lively, infuse a bucket of water with a couple of banana peels. This homemade fertiliser is a quick way to introduce much needed nutrients to you plants.

10.  Gives an Asian twist to your meals...
Many vegetables and meats in Asian cuisine are wrapped in banana leaves before being steamed, boiled, roasted or barbecued. If you can't get your hands on banana leaves, the next best thing is to wrap them in banana peels. It perfumes and gives a hint of sweetness to meats and veg.

11.  Reduces wrinkles and lines...
Banana peels also contain trace amounts of lutein, a type of antioxidant that keeps signs of aging away. To get the full effects of the antioxidant, simply rub the inner peel on your face and leave there for 20 to 30 minutes every day. Rinse it off with warm water afterward.

12.  Treat Psoriasis....
Psoriasis is a condition that affects the skin, most commonly around the neck, scalp and face. The afflicted parts grow dry, itchy patches that take time to heal with the use of medication. However, if you are in a pinch, you can rub banana peel to mosturise and soothe itchiness.

13.  Reduces puffiness under your eyes....
The potassium found in banana peels can also be used to get rid of the under-eye bags that form with age. You can leave a patch of banana peel on your face or scrape off the inner peel with a spoon and mixing it with aloe vera gel. Dab a bit of the paste gently under and around your eyes.

Aussie Pie Floater

With Australia day fast approaching, I had to share this Aussie icon. The pie floater is a meat pie submerged in thick pea soup, the pies are traditionally turned upside down sitting or sometimes submerged in the pea soup. The first time I had ever heard of this was while watching an episode of Billy Connolly's Australian tour. He was doing a show in Adelaide and indulged in one of these south Aussie icons. We tried a similar thing called a tiger pie from Harry's Cafe de Wheels on the Sydney harbour, the Tiger is a meat pie served with scoop of mash a scoop of mushy peas and a scoop of gravy, it was really delicious.  A pie floater put simply is a meat pie on top of or covered in green pea soup with a choice of sauce squirted on top, the usual being ketchup, brown sauce, mint sauce, gravy or bbq sauce, some people also enjoy vinegar over their floater, I suppose the options can be endless, whatever 'floats' your pie!!. Peas with Mustard Sauce

This is an amazing side dish, turns ordinary humble peas into something refreshingly different.  I found this on Sarah Jessica Parker's Instagram account, she doesn't specify amounts so I played around with it so that the taste suited my family. Ingredients 230 g peas, fresh or frozen 2-3 tbsp sour cream 1-2 tsp wholegrain mustard butter to taste Method Cook peas by boiling, steaming or microwave. Drain.
