Mona Pavilions Win

On the weekend of 25th / 26th October 2013, my hubby surprised me with a luxury weekend at the Mona Pavilions. MONA ( Museum of Old & New Arts ) , is located within the Moorilla winery in Hobart, Tasmania.
We checked in at 3pm on 25th October, we were shown to our pavilion, which had fabulous views overlooking the gorgeous Derwent river, it had a spa bath with a view to die for, fully equipped kitchen & a huge bed. We booked a 5 course degustation meal with matching wines at The Source restaurant situated within the Mona site, it was fabulous, the French chef picks your 5 courses for you after checking if you have any dietary requirements. Our first course was Quail egg, shiitake mushroom royale, raisin purée & asparagus. The second course was Moreton bay bug tail, pickled apple, wasabi emulsion & lime zest. Third course was pan fried scallop gnocchi, perpetual spinach, yuzu purée & ponzu foam. Fourth course was slow roasted Duck, carrot & orange purée, spiced bread, sesame greens, green peppercorn oil & orange crisp. Last but not least, our fifth course was chocolate mousse, chocolate ganache & edible gold.  It sounds a lot of eating & we were stuffed after it but thankfully the portion servings were what you would expect in posh restaurants.
On Saturday 26th we had breakfast in The Source restaurant, it was fabulous, my hubby had the full breakfast which consisted of fried egg, pork sausage, grilled mushroom, potato rosti, kurabota pork belly & toasted house baked bread, I had the house cured Trout, basqaise stew, slow cooked egg & hollandaise. We then looked around the MONA museum which has been called the worlds most far out museum housing  one of the most confronting & controvertsial collections of art in the world, then we went on a wine tour & tasting which lasted an hour, after that we just relaxed on the balcony enjoying the view.  We left on the 27th October , but not before we had our breakfast, this time we both went for the eggs Benedict on sour dough bread!!!, yum.

Aussie Pie Floater

With Australia day fast approaching, I had to share this Aussie icon. The pie floater is a meat pie submerged in thick pea soup, the pies are traditionally turned upside down sitting or sometimes submerged in the pea soup. The first time I had ever heard of this was while watching an episode of Billy Connolly's Australian tour. He was doing a show in Adelaide and indulged in one of these south Aussie icons. We tried a similar thing called a tiger pie from Harry's Cafe de Wheels on the Sydney harbour, the Tiger is a meat pie served with scoop of mash a scoop of mushy peas and a scoop of gravy, it was really delicious.  A pie floater put simply is a meat pie on top of or covered in green pea soup with a choice of sauce squirted on top, the usual being ketchup, brown sauce, mint sauce, gravy or bbq sauce, some people also enjoy vinegar over their floater, I suppose the options can be endless, whatever 'floats' your pie!!. I searched a few variou...

I didn't bother weighing and measuring the ingredients, just go with how much you plan to make, it's that simple. All you need are a few items, if you don't have any of these to hand you can always improvise, instead of the candy eyes use white and milk chocolate, pretzels can be used for the legs as well as the antlers.
