Gallery Wall Repair

We finally got round to repairing the downstairs gallery wall. We had a flood back in January 2022, where the earth behind the gallery wall got soaked and started to crumble and fall heavily against the back of the wall, see here. At the time, Scott braced the wall to stop it from moving and when it finally dried out the earth hardened again, but we knew we would have to eventually remove the plasterboard and dig out the earth that had fallen against the inside of the wall.

We were doing a New Year clear out on 8th January 2024, so I decided it would be about time to redo the gallery wall, and started to remove the pictures and photos when we noticed that some of them had built up mould on them from the damp that had built up due to the flood, we were pretty shocked to see this as we hadn't realised how bad it was. Scott put in a couple of vents and a ventilation hose to help with the circulation of air, we didn't want to open the wall up until we were sure that it had been well and truly ventilated.

10th February, the girls and Darren spent the night a Ryan's playing games, so we took the opportunity to fix the wall. Scott removed sections of the plasterboard so that we could get to the earth and dig it out, there were a good few buckets full which we took to the tip.

I found this price ticket in among the rubble, not sure what it was from but its from something that was purchased at the garden centre in Kelso, Scotland!

Once we had removed the build up of earth we added some plastic lining and insulation before replacing the plasterboard.

11th February, we continued with the wall. Scott bought plasterboard to replace what we had taken off.

He neatened off the wall and cut the plasterboard to fit.

17th February, more plaster.

We will get it painted and put some new pictures up.
