The oldest McDonald's restaurant is a drive-up hamburger stand situated on Lakewood Boulevard in Downey, California. It was the third McDonald's restaurant and opened 18th August 1953. The restaurant is the oldest one in the chain still in existence. (Information sourced here)
We came across this by chance on the day we were leaving to come home, 4th November 2022. We were driving to a Walgreens when I spotted it as we passed, Scott had to turn the car round so I could get photos 😁😂.
The sign features a chef called "Speedee", inspired by the fast and efficient service.
It has kept much of its 1950s style, including the single arch instead of the two with a sign saying 'Hamburger, We have sold 500 million"
It was a fascinating find that we didn't know existed.
