Day Two, 29th October

We woke up at 9 am after a good night's sleep. We started the day sitting outside with a cup of tea, then we ate breakfast.

We decided to go to Bombay Beach, we had been told that their would be maintenance guys coming into our room so to  lock our valuables in the safe, Scott went to open the safe but it wasn't working, so he went to reception to let them know, they said they would send a repair guy up to sort it, after waiting over an hour the workmen couldn't fix it, so we were given a key for a different room to store our valuables, we eventually got left for our destination at 12.04 pm, what a joke!

We stopped off for petrol before heading to Bombay Beach.

Drive to Bombay Beach

As we were almost at Bombay Beach, Cerys phoned us to say that as she was about to go to work at 7 am she realised she had a flat tyre, she was very upset, we had just arrived at Bombay Beach, it was 1.20 pm USA time, so Scott pulled over and spoke to her, he asked her if Darren was home, which he was, he told her to wake him up and he would guide him through how to change the tyre, she put her phone on video call so that he could see Darren and speak him through the tyre change, he did very well, having  never even change a tyre before.

While he was coaching them through the steps, I got out of the car to take some photos, I noticed a little place to eat on the road to the beach, so we decided to have lunch there after we did our sightseeing.

I will do a separate post on Bombay Beach.

It was a lovely friendly little place that was decorated in one dollar bills that people had written or drawn on, they were from people all over USA and the world. We asked the barman if we could do one, he brought us over some pens and tape.

I just had to snap this pic of Scott coming in with my pink handbag! 😜

Whist waiting for our meal, we booked a table at the Trixie Motel for 7.15 pm, to enjoy cocktails and nibbles.

I had a margarita and Scott had a beer, we ordered our food, I had a swiss mushroom burger with coleslaw, Scott had the 1/2 rack of ribs with fries and coleslaw.

Once we had finished our meal, We decorated our dollar bill and stuck it to a space on the ceiling. By then it was 3.30 pm so we headed for the shops in Palm Desert, I got the bag Cerys was wanting from Hot Topic and I got a couple of things from Claire's.

Scott went to collect our stuff from the safe in the other room, but would you believe it, the key card had been deactivated so he couldn't get in, he had to go back to reception to get it activated. We then got dressed and headed to Trixie's.

It was amazing, not only that, but we had the entire Barbara room to ourselves, I took loads of photos, so much so that I will do a separate blog post for Trixie's.

The barman was called Kevin and he was very attentive, we ordered our drinks and some fries with parmesan. I got a frozen pink flamingo, Scott got an old fashioned. We also shared  glass of Mumm champagne, we were there for 1 1/2 hours.

We then headed back to the resort and settled in for the evening.

Aussie Pie Floater

With Australia day fast approaching, I had to share this Aussie icon. The pie floater is a meat pie submerged in thick pea soup, the pies are traditionally turned upside down sitting or sometimes submerged in the pea soup. The first time I had ever heard of this was while watching an episode of Billy Connolly's Australian tour. He was doing a show in Adelaide and indulged in one of these south Aussie icons. We tried a similar thing called a tiger pie from Harry's Cafe de Wheels on the Sydney harbour, the Tiger is a meat pie served with scoop of mash a scoop of mushy peas and a scoop of gravy, it was really delicious.  A pie floater put simply is a meat pie on top of or covered in green pea soup with a choice of sauce squirted on top, the usual being ketchup, brown sauce, mint sauce, gravy or bbq sauce, some people also enjoy vinegar over their floater, I suppose the options can be endless, whatever 'floats' your pie!!. I searched a few variou

Peas with Mustard Sauce

This is an amazing side dish, turns ordinary humble peas into something refreshingly different.  I found this on Sarah Jessica Parker's Instagram account, she doesn't specify amounts so I played around with it so that the taste suited my family. Ingredients 230 g peas, fresh or frozen 2-3 tbsp sour cream 1-2 tsp wholegrain mustard butter to taste Method Cook peas by boiling, steaming or microwave. Drain. Add sour cream, mustard, mix through to combine. Add butter, stir to combine. Can you see me?? Enjoy. recipe sourced  here
