Jodie's Bedroom Makeover

Jodie moved into this room from her old room at the end of 2012 and has been there ever since.

Although things have been moved around on one occasion and she has added new items and collectables, her room has basically stayed the same for the past 9 years (yes, she seriously struggles with change!!).

                                                                                2012

She has accumulated a good few pop vinyl's over the years and she got more for Christmas and added a few more Disney ones when they were released in February so she was running out of space to put them, I think that's where her decision to restyle her room came. I have been suggesting a freshen up for a while now, getting rid of the dark red wall to a more cleaner, brighter colour, so she finally agreed.

Everything that couldn't fit on the shelves she had was left on the floor until she decided how she wanted to display them.

Below are more before photos.

We donated the couch that used to sit under her window to the op shop as she no longer had a use for it and wanted more space.

The makeover started on 5th March 2021 with an undercoat to the walls.

Saturday 6th March the main wall colour was painted on, the colour is Dulux snow season half strength.

After a few deliberations on what sort of unit/shelving storage space she wanted she decided on these units from Kmart.

We got two of them plus a coffee table that was reduced to $19 which was going to sit in between the units to sit her TV on. It was wider than the units and her autism doesn't like things to be different or out of place so Scott fashioned it to fit neatly between the two.

On Sunday 7th March we headed to Kmart to buy the units and table which Scott proceeded to assemble when we got home.

Fashioning the table so that it fits in between the units.

He put a support under the shelf to help with the weight of the TV.

Then finding the perfect spot for all her things began.

With Monday being a public holiday, we brought all her belongings back into her room and she set about placing her collectables onto the shelves of her unit.

(we still have to hide the cables!!)

We bought this snow globe for her Christmas at the end of 1999, the first time we visited Disney World Orlando, she was 15 months old when she got it.

This lamp was bought at Disney World at the end of 2007.

I made this framed paw prints of Hamish for her Christmas 2019. See here

She does like a candle! 😁

So her room shouldn't need done again for another few years! 😜

Aussie Pie Floater

With Australia day fast approaching, I had to share this Aussie icon. The pie floater is a meat pie submerged in thick pea soup, the pies are traditionally turned upside down sitting or sometimes submerged in the pea soup. The first time I had ever heard of this was while watching an episode of Billy Connolly's Australian tour. He was doing a show in Adelaide and indulged in one of these south Aussie icons. We tried a similar thing called a tiger pie from Harry's Cafe de Wheels on the Sydney harbour, the Tiger is a meat pie served with scoop of mash a scoop of mushy peas and a scoop of gravy, it was really delicious.  A pie floater put simply is a meat pie on top of or covered in green pea soup with a choice of sauce squirted on top, the usual being ketchup, brown sauce, mint sauce, gravy or bbq sauce, some people also enjoy vinegar over their floater, I suppose the options can be endless, whatever 'floats' your pie!!. I searched a few variou...

How cute are these guys!!, super easy to make and perfect for kiddies Christmas parties. I didn't bother weighing and measuring the ingredients, just go with how much you plan to make, it's that simple. All you need are a few items, if you don't have any of these to hand you can always improvise, instead of the candy eyes use white and milk chocolate, pretzels can be used for the legs as well as the antlers.
