Spooky Pool Party

I got some amazing Halloween items recently from TK Maxx, spooky creatures on pool floats, not only were some of them on flamingoes, they were PINK!, so needless to say, they just had to work their way into my trolley 😂.

I wasn't sure where I was going to pit them at first, but then thought that making the TV unit into a pool/beach scene to make it look like they are having a spooky pool party.

I bought a packet of blue cellophane to make the "pool" water with, I scrunched it up so that it simulates the moving of the water.

For the "sand", I bought a sheet of gold glitter craft paper and cut it in half and scrunched to make it look like the beach, then made a wave out of some of the cellophane and lapped it over the sand.

Then positioned the floats on the water and the others on the sand.

And there we have a spooky pool party ready to have fun for Halloween.

I came across the skeleton's on a slide while sorting through the Halloween decor and added it to the pool party.

Aussie Pie Floater

With Australia day fast approaching, I had to share this Aussie icon. The pie floater is a meat pie submerged in thick pea soup, the pies are traditionally turned upside down sitting or sometimes submerged in the pea soup. The first time I had ever heard of this was while watching an episode of Billy Connolly's Australian tour. He was doing a show in Adelaide and indulged in one of these south Aussie icons. We tried a similar thing called a tiger pie from Harry's Cafe de Wheels on the Sydney harbour, the Tiger is a meat pie served with scoop of mash a scoop of mushy peas and a scoop of gravy, it was really delicious. A pie floater put simply is a meat pie on top of or covered in green pea soup with a choice of sauce squirted on top, the usual being ketchup, brown sauce, mint sauce, gravy or bbq sauce, some people also enjoy vinegar over their floater, I suppose the options can be endless, whatever 'floats' your pie!!. Rice Krispie Treats for Cake Sculpting

I saw this idea while watching a baking competition series on TV recently, they used it to sculpt and carve larger lightweight novelty modelling decorations for cakes. Ideal when you are making a large novelty sculpture that you don't want to be heavy or weigh the cake down. Such a clever idea and just what I needed to make the main part of Cerys' recent birthday cake. I did some internet searches and found a few recipes, they were all much the same, involving 2 main ingredients...marshmallows and rice krispies. Some also added melted chocolate and butter but I didn't want to involve too much ingredients, this one called for equal amounts of marshmallow and rice krispies and 1 tsp margarine.
