Christmas 2007...Orlando

We spent Christmas in Orlando in 2007 as part of our extended holiday from 9th December 2007--11th January 2008.

On Christmas eve we visited Wonderworks on International Drive, It was the first time we had been to it, it was pretty awesome, it is upside down for a start!. Wonderworks is like an indoor amusement park combining education and entertainment.

The kids enjoyed the learning side of it, there were plenty of interesting activities to keep them occupied.

Cerys found a friend in the bubble lab blowing bubbles through a bubble sheet.

Jodie enjoyed the big bubbles where you can fit inside them.

Space Discovery Zone.

A life-size replica of an astronauts suit.

Lying on a bed of 3500 nails.

Unfortunately poor Darren wasn't feeling very well so we went home early to have tea then Scott took him to see a doctor where he got a course of antibiotics.

It gave the girls the chance to play in the pool so they were happy.

We had purchased a Christmas tree from a hard wear store in Orlando on the 16th December and the kids decorated it.

Presents under the tree ready to open on Christmas day.

Kids in bed, presents wrapped and under the tree, now time to relax 😛

Christmas day was spent at Discovery Cove, an all-inclusive day resort where you can relax, swim with the dolphins, paddle with stingrays, snorkel, eat, drink, lie in hammocks or float around lazy river.

We booked Christmas day here back in January 2007 as numbers are limited and we didn't want to miss the chance of experiencing a completely different way to spend Christmas day. We also booked swimming with the dolphins for Darren, Jodie and I, Scott stayed with Cerys on the beach bit as she was too young, but he will get his chance if we ever go back again!. The kids didn't know we were going there until a couple of days before Christmas.

These photos came with the photo DVD that we purchased with our photos swimming with the dolphins.

We had some breakfast before getting issued with our wet suits.

We were suited up with wet suits and given a time for our dolphin swim. Food and drinks were unlimited but we hardly took anything as we were much too busy enjoying ourselves and making the best of the time we had.

Swimming and interacting with the dolphins was such an amazing experience, they are so intelligent and gentle. Our dolphin was called Travis.

I must admit I was a little nervous watching Jodie ride off into the big wide yonder on the back of the dolphin as when standing in the water her feet couldn't reach the bottom! but he was very careful and gentle, she didn't even get her face wet.

He was less than concerned about me as he seemed to take me on the scenic route 😆

When our fun filled day at Discovery Cove came to an end it was time to head home so the kids could open their Christmas presents.

I had bought some food to eat on Christmas day but nothing fancy or remotely Christmassy as we wanted it to be a relaxed affair after spending the day swimming etc. Once the kids had opened their gifts, had their tea and were playing with their new toys, Scott and I went into the pool and ate our Christmas dinner there.

Boxing day we drove to Tampa to visit Busch Gardens but we didn't stay long as both Darren and Cerys weren't feeling well so we had a quick look around then left.

Jodie got to tuck into some of our Christmas cake when we got home.

Aussie Pie Floater

With Australia day fast approaching, I had to share this Aussie icon. The pie floater is a meat pie submerged in thick pea soup, the pies are traditionally turned upside down sitting or sometimes submerged in the pea soup. The first time I had ever heard of this was while watching an episode of Billy Connolly's Australian tour. He was doing a show in Adelaide and indulged in one of these south Aussie icons. We tried a similar thing called a tiger pie from Harry's Cafe de Wheels on the Sydney harbour, the Tiger is a meat pie served with scoop of mash a scoop of mushy peas and a scoop of gravy, it was really delicious.  A pie floater put simply is a meat pie on top of or covered in green pea soup with a choice of sauce squirted on top, the usual being ketchup, brown sauce, mint sauce, gravy or bbq sauce, some people also enjoy vinegar over their floater, I suppose the options can be endless, whatever 'floats' your pie!!. I searched a few variou...

Reindeer Mini Chocolate Rolls

How cute are these guys!!, super easy to make and perfect for kiddies Christmas parties. I didn't bother weighing and measuring the ingredients, just go with how much you plan to make, it's that simple. All you need are a few items, if you don't have any of these to hand you can always improvise, instead of the candy eyes use white and milk chocolate, pretzels can be used for the legs as well as the antlers. Ingredients mini chocolate rolls white melting chocolate red and brown mini M & M's icing eyes milk chocolate melts pretzels chocolate matchsticks Method 1.  Melt some white chocolate melts according to packet directions. Allow to cool a little. Dip one end of the chocolate rolls into the melted white chocolate place dipped end up on a lined baking tray, put a mini M & M onto the nose part of the dipped end, add the eyes and using writing icing, draw a mouth.
