Burns Night 2018

Every year on 25th January, Scotland raises a glass in celebration of Scottish poet Robert Burns and enjoys a supper of haggis, neeps and tatties and a wee dram of whisky. Some people hold parties with all the tradition that comes with a Burns Night celebration, from the grace, usually the Selkirk Grace, address to the Haggis and poetry reading.

Selkirk Grace

Some hae meat an canna eat,
And some wad eat that want it;
But we hae meat, and we can eat,
Sae the lord be thankit.

We always used to celebrate Burns Night when we lived in Scotland with a supper of haggis, neeps and tatties. We have celebrated once before here in Australia see here but as we were in the USA this time last year we didn't get the chance but as Margaret took out a tin of haggis during her last visit, we will be able to do so again this year.

For the starter I made Cullen skink here

Haggis, neeps and tatties.

Scott made Whisky sauce here

A great Scottish tradition which has been celebrated since approx 1802.
