The Spirit Of Tasmania

10th June 2025 was the first time we had travelled to Melbourne on The Spirit of Tasmania. It will be 17 years in October since we moved from Scotland to Tassie, so we thought it was about time we tried the Spirit. The girls booked shows in Melbourne and we took this opportunity to travel there by sea, taking our car along for the ride.

We drove to Devonport to catch the Ferry. We arrived at the boarding terminal at 4.50pm.

Collecting our boarding passes.

We started boarding at 5.10pm.

After parking, we headed onto the ferry deck to our cabin.

After dropping off the luggage we would need for that evening and next morning, we went for a wander around the ferry.

We then sat and had a drink before the ferry set sail at 6.45pm.

We decided to have dinner on board which cost $32.50 each, it was a good selection and you could take as much as you wanted.

After we finished, we took another wander around the ferry.

Before heading to deck 10 for drinks and to play some games.

The girls went to their beds, and we stayed on the deck for a little while.

Then headed to the cabin.

11th June, we departed the ferry. After our alarm call over the tannoy, we got ready and made our way to our vehicles ready for disembarkment.

And that was the end of our very first Spirit of Tasmania experience. The girls said they wouldn't do it again, but Scott and I would like to experience it again on our own, we thought it was a good experience.

Aussie Pie Floater

With Australia day fast approaching, I had to share this Aussie icon. The pie floater is a meat pie submerged in thick pea soup, the pies are traditionally turned upside down sitting or sometimes submerged in the pea soup. The first time I had ever heard of this was while watching an episode of Billy Connolly's Australian tour. He was doing a show in Adelaide and indulged in one of these south Aussie icons. We tried a similar thing called a tiger pie from Harry's Cafe de Wheels on the Sydney harbour, the Tiger is a meat pie served with scoop of mash a scoop of mushy peas and a scoop of gravy, it was really delicious.  A pie floater put simply is a meat pie on top of or covered in green pea soup with a choice of sauce squirted on top, the usual being ketchup, brown sauce, mint sauce, gravy or bbq sauce, some people also enjoy vinegar over their floater, I suppose the options can be endless, whatever 'floats' your pie!!. I searched a few variou...

All you need are a few items, if you don't have any of these to hand you can always improvise, instead of the candy eyes use white and milk chocolate, pretzels can be used for the legs as well as the antlers.
