Toilet Renovation

Toilet before.

One year after we started renovating the main bathroom, we finally started on the toilet. 18th January 2024, Scott started by breaking up the floor tiles, then we decided that the window should come out first, so the tiles were abandoned for now.

23rd January, Scott removed the window.

We didn't want to put the same size window in as we wanted to give it more privacy, not that you could see through it, but you could see shadows, especially at night when it was dark and the light was on.

We couldn't get any bricks that matched our house, so we had to improvise. We used the breeze blocks that we had removed from the seating area to make a feature, then added the glass blocks to match in with the bathroom window.

He then used cement sheet to patch the opening behind the breezeblocks.

Insulation went between the panels.

29th January, the floor tiles were removed.

3rd February 2024, the toilet was removed and the last of the tiles were taken up.

And the new tiles down.

The the wall tiles were added.

The new toilet was marked in place.

Holes were drilled in the tiles for the bolts to secure the toilet.

8th February, grouting the wall tiles.

9th February, the wall tiles started going on.

12th February, Scott continued with the rest of the wall tiles.

17th February, sealant around the tile edges.

I bought this storage unit from Kmart in August last year.

I got it reduced from $35 to $16 because the packaging was damaged.

It's nice to have it finally matching the bathroom.

Aussie Pie Floater

With Australia day fast approaching, I had to share this Aussie icon. The pie floater is a meat pie submerged in thick pea soup, the pies are traditionally turned upside down sitting or sometimes submerged in the pea soup. The first time I had ever heard of this was while watching an episode of Billy Connolly's Australian tour. He was doing a show in Adelaide and indulged in one of these south Aussie icons. We tried a similar thing called a tiger pie from Harry's Cafe de Wheels on the Sydney harbour, the Tiger is a meat pie served with scoop of mash a scoop of mushy peas and a scoop of gravy, it was really delicious.  A pie floater put simply is a meat pie on top of or covered in green pea soup with a choice of sauce squirted on top, the usual being ketchup, brown sauce, mint sauce, gravy or bbq sauce, some people also enjoy vinegar over their floater, I suppose the options can be endless, whatever 'floats' your pie!!. I searched a few variou...
