During a recent visit and overnight stay at Queenstown we made a pit stop at the remains of The Royal Hotel in Linda, an old ghost town in the Linda Valley in the West Coat Range of Tassie, actually this was one of the main reasons for going to Queenstown, I have always wanted to see this ghostly reminder of bygone days.
Linda is situated 10 minutes from Queenstown and is the site for the impressive blackened concrete ruins of The Royal Hotel, also known as the Old Linda Pub.
Built in 1901 then destroyed by a fire in 1910 and rebuilt. In 1925 a young man was fatally stabbed at the pub. Finally closing its doors in 1952.
At one time Linda, a thriving mining community had a population of around 600, where The Royal Hotel was at the heart of the community.
It was a glorious day when we arrived, blue skies and sunshine brightened up the dark and dingy concrete exterior but I bet it looks pretty eerie when the skies are full of clouds and rain.
Peeking through which was the doors and windows you could clearly see the outlines of the rooms with the fireplaces built into the walls. The second floor, although no floor remains, but the outline of where it sat is still clearly visible.
Great post Karen. The hotel has anew owner who is planning to reopen in some form. You might be interested in this article https://www.theadvocate.com.au/story/7067773/new-owner-of-iconic-hotel-keen-to-invest-in-the-west-coast/
